Our History

On July 1st, 2010, our church was born, becoming the fifth Mar Thoma Parish within the Philadelphia region. The first Holy Communion Service of Christos Mar Thoma Church Philadelphia was held on Sunday, July 4th, 2010 by Rev. George M. Kuruvilla & Rev. M. John at Greenburg Elementary school within the Northeast section of Philadelphia. By God’s Grace on December 2nd, 2010 Christos bought its facility for worship at this location; 9999 Gantry Road, Philadelphia, PA 19115 at the price of $1.4 Million. Rev. M. John has been assisting as the Clergy Vice President of our Parish since then. Members of the Exec committee, building committee, and members from our Parish worked tirelessly to transform a major portion of the building into an attractive sanctuary with roominess for 500 people, several Sunday school classrooms, and rooms for members with babies within 22 days of purchase of the property.

The new church facility was dedicated on Christmas Eve; December 24th, 2010 by the Diocesan Bishop; Rt. Rev. Dr. Geevarghese Mar Theodosius Episcopa, within the presence of the many dignitaries and clergymen from the tri-state area. On August 5th, 2010, the Church was incorporated as a non-profit religious organization under the constitution of the Mar Thoma Church, within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Within a year of its existence on April 21st, 2011, the church was able to secure a parsonage for the Vicar and his family at 9707 Wynmill Road, Philadelphia, PA 19115.

The foundation stone for the new sanctuary was blessed and laid on Sunday, July 24th 2016 by His Grace Rt. Rev. Dr. Isaac Mar Philoxenos Episcopa, Diocesan Bishop in the presence of Rt. Rev. Dr. Thomas Mar Theethos Episcopa. The consecration of the new sanctuary was held on Sunday, April 23rd, 2017 by the Diocesan Bishop; Rt. Rev. Dr. Issac Mar Philoxenos Episcopa.
